As you may have noticed, Installation for our new mailboxes began last Monday, May 5th, with the preparation of the post holes. Where possible, the installer dug around the old mailbox posts, pulled them out and then prepped the existing hole for the new post. In order to allow for continued mail service, they then placed the old mailbox clusters back into the newly prepped holes. In some instances, the old posts were encased in cement and the posts broke off when they tried to remove them. In those cases, the installer dug a new hole next to (within 2 feet) the old hole. Location was determined based on marked utility lines and any landscaping that might be in the way. During the post hole preparation work, as expected, we had some mailbox casualties. Various Board members did their best to put damaged mailboxes back together and back on the posts so you would continue to receive your mail. The post hole preparation work was completed last week and the mailboxes have been assembled and are ready for final installation.
This week, you will start to see the new posts being installed. If you would like to keep your old mailbox for use at another location, you are welcome to do so and should remove it now. Otherwise it will be disposed of in the dumpster. Please remove any mail left in your mailboxes. If mail is left in the mailbox at the time the installer comes to remove the old boxes and install the new post, your old mailbox, with all mail left inside, will be left on your porch. It will then become your responsibility to dispose of your old mailbox.
When the new posts are installed, they will be placed into concrete and will need to cure for a minimum of 24 hours. This is the time when mail delivery will be briefly interrupted for at least 1 day but no more than 3 days (weather permitting). The installer will do his best to limit the interruption to only one day.
We have excess fill dirt from the digging of the new holes and some pallets that were used to delivery the mailboxes. If you are interested in in either of these., please send an e-mail with your contact information to Sue Farris (Facilities board member) at facilities@fordlakevillage.com. She will then contact you to make arrangements.
The board is excited to see the new mailboxes installed and we hope you will enjoy having them. As always, if you have any questions related to this project or other neighborhood concerns, please contact the Ford Lake Village Home Owners Associtation board at board@fordlakevillage.com.
Sincerely,
Ford Lake Village Board
